2011 Kia Forte packs a lot of action in for a surprisingly low starting MSRP. This front-wheel drive four-door compact has two different inline-4 engines available. By upgrading to a higher trim and bigger engine, drivers can inject more excitement into the experience of owning a Forte.

The base engine for the Forte is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder that gets 156 horsepower. No one is ever going to confuse the 2011 Kia Forte for a performance car. The "2011 Kia Forte" has two available transmissions: a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic.

Bluetooth is now standard across the board, enhancing the value of the Forte. Many drivers will be happy to know that the Forte's trunk is exceptionally large for a car in its class, too, boasting 12.6 cubic feet of space in coupe models and 14.7 cubic feet in sedan models.

You’ll enjoy sport seats, power windows and doors, air conditioning, leather-wrapped steering wheel and metal accent trims.

For most drivers, the low MSRP of the 2011 Kia Forte is going to be its top attraction. Excellent "fuel economy - 27 mpg in the city and 36 mpg" on the freeway with the Fuel Economy Package - ups the ante considerably.

The 2011 Kia Forte Koup is very closely related to the "Kia Forte Sedan "in most respects, but it's a little shorter and lower and actually has completely different sheetmetal—with a lower, more swept-back look that's quite simply a little sexier.

Kia says the sedan's trunk offers 14.7 cubic feet of cargo space, and the hatchback has 19.4 cubic feet of storage space. The Forte's two-door offshoot — Kia calls it the Koup— comes in the sedan's two upper trims, EX and SX. Drivetrains follow suit, with the EX getting the 2.0-liter four-cylinder and the SX getting the 2.4-liter four-cylinder. A six-'speed manual and automatic transmission" are available with both engines and trim levels.

2011 Kia Optima Hybrid

Kia has entered the green game for the first time with the all-new 2011 Kia Optima Hybrid. Details are still forthcoming, but we expect the Optima Hybrid to have a 169-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and a 40-hp electric motor. The 2011 Kia Optima Hybrid is expected to go on sale in the fall of 2010.

Like its sister vehicle, the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, the Optima Hybrid combines a 30-kilowatt electric motor with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder to produce a combined 206 hp. The Optima Hybrid can cruise on electric-only power under light acceleration and sufficient battery charge. Overall trunk volume falls to 9.9 cubic feet. That's a considerable drop from the non-hybrid Optima's 15.4 cubic feet, but it's typical of a hybrid sedan: The Ford Fusion Hybrid and Toyota Camry Hybrid each sacrifice about 30 percent of trunk volume versus their non-hybrid equivalents.

Compared with nickel-metal hydride batteries, lithium polymer batteries weigh 20-to-30% less, occupy 40% less volume and are 10% more efficient. The complete hybrid system is controlled by the Optima’s Hybrid Control Unit (HCU) which acts as the car’s mastermind and integrates the smooth operation of the engine’s ECU, transmission’s TCU, battery management system (BMS), low voltage converter (LDC). For the Optima Hybrid, Kia has modified the six-speed automatic transmission found on the conventional Optima for hybrid application.

Energy and fuel-saving technologies features in the Optima Hybrid include a regenerative braking system, electric – rather than hydraulic – assisted power steering, and an electric air compressor capable of delivering high air-conditioning performance.

Two independent liquid cooling systems are fitted to the Optima Hybrid powertrain. The second low-temperature circuit cools the hybrid starter-generator and the power electronics.

Featuring front-wheel-drive, Optima utilizes independent suspension systems, with MacPherson struts in the front and a multi-link layout at the rear.

2011 Kia Cadenza

2011 Kia Cadenza.We weren't sad to see the Kia Amanti ride off into the sunset. Its odd styling, floaty suspension and lack of refinement did little to endear it to American buyers. Globally, the Cadenza is offered with engine choices that range from a 162-horsepower four-cylinder to a 286-hp V6.

Kia and Hyundai were so eager to emulate more-established brands that they jumped into this quandary with both feet, albeit with limited success. The Kia Amanti, intended to toe this line, succeeded instead in reaching new heights in awkward styling and driving like all four tires were flat. The Kia Cadenza, which will make its formal auto-show debut in the Middle East at the Saudi Arabia auto show, will replace the awkwardly-styled Amanti in the realm of the Hyundai Azera.

The 2011 Kia Cadenza is Kia’s replacement for the Amanti, and it certainly has big shoes to fill.

The exterior of the Cadenza seems distinctly European in its design. The roofline slopes gently toward the back of the vehicle which is blessedly short and well-proportioned.

Unlike the outgoing Kia Amanti, the Kia Cadenza is svelte and smooth under all but the most extreme conditions.
Couple the Cadenza’s value with the fact that the 2001 Kia Cadenza costs less than anything comparable to it, and it is likely to prove a great value for years to come.

The new Kia Sportage SX Turbo

Kia Motors announced the new Sportage SX Turbo, which had already been introduced in Canada, for America and other markets

On the outside, SX models receive unique 18″ alloy wheels, a signature SX grille, dual exhaust, and special side sill moldings. Available exclusively on the Sportage SX, Orange and Blue interior color packages offer more interior color choices for potential buyers.

A unique blue patterned cloth seat and blue interior accents are included as part of the Blue Color Package.

Other benefits of this twin-scroll system include more available low-end power, and reduced turbo-lag as compared to more traditional single-scroll turbo systems.

The twin-scroll design features two valve-operated exhaust gas inlets responsible for feeding exhaust flow through separate paths into the turbine.

Two versions of the Sportage SX will be offered. Exterior updates to the Sportage SX include 18-inch alloy wheels, a signature SX grille, dual exhaust, and special side sill moldings.

Kia will also offer orange and blue interior color packages on the Sportage SX. "The orange color package includes orange stitching on the steering wheel, center console, and seats coupled with orange accents on the door panels and air vents," Kia said, while the blue color package offers a "unique blue patterned cloth seat and blue interior accents."

The 2011 Kia Sportage SX Turbo will pack a 256 horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that will also feature 264 pound-feet of torque. Kia has stated that the front-wheel drive Sportage Turbo will deliver better fuel mileage than any of its competitors.

"Sportage offers an ideal mix of performance, fuel efficiency and utility for the discriminating compact CUV buyer," said Michael Sprague, vice president, marketing & communications, KMA.
The price of the 2011 Kia Sportage with a turbocharger will be $25,795 for the front-wheel drive version.

KIA Picanto has made its way onto the Geneva motor show stand for its global debut.

The smallest member of the Kia family – the KIA Picanto has made its way onto the Geneva motor show stand for its global debut.

The five-door will go on sale from May, with the three-door not appearing until the autumn.
Kia expects the sportier-looking three-door version to account for 30 per cent of sales, and help attract new, younger buyers to the brand.

The KIA Picanto is now 60mm longer with 36mm more front legroom and 27 per cent more boot space, up to 200 litres.

Power will be provided by a choice of three petrol engines: a 68bhp 1-litre, 84bhp 1.25-litre and a 81bhp 1-litre bi-fuel unit, which will use a mix of petrol and LPG.

“Our new Picanto is now a small car, grown-up,” comments Soon-Nam Lee, Director of Overseas Marketing, Kia Motors Corporation. “It is such a complete car, such a high quality package, offering numerous premium features and multiple trim choices, that it will raise the fundamental perception of A-segment models to a higher level.

UK consumers will benefit from the next generation Picanto’s greatly reduced CO2 emissions, improved fuel economy and reduced ownership costs when the model goes on sale later this year.

Griffin's coach Kenny Smith said after the dunk that the pass from Davis wasn't where it was supposed to be; it's unclear if Davis was supposed to go off the backboard or whether Griffin needed the ball higher.

Rumors swirled about an over-a-car dunk from Griffin all day, but the Clippers' rookie saved the dunk for the final round.
Probably the NBA because the video is called "Griffin's Car Dunk" and not "Griffin's Optima Dunk."

It was an appropriate coupling of car and event because, even as Kia is riding a wave of sales success, its all-new KIA Optima could be a slam-dunk winner, too.

Coincidence had an KIA Optima test car in my driveway the same night as Griffin's dunk.

The "KIA Optima" has achieved the metamorphosis from "unremarkable choice" to a first-class, five-passenger mid-sized sedan. Even though the Optima shares a platform and engines with the critically acclaimed Hyundai Sonata, the exterior design, suspension tuning, and interior treatment are significantly different.

"Our" KIA Optima was the mid-level EX with an MSRP (including destination) of $23,190. It had the only two factory options available, a $2,000 technology package (navigation system, back-up camera, Infinity audio system) and the $2,250 premium package that included a panoramic two-piece sunroof, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear outboard seats, and my favorite: a heated steering wheel.

Mrs. G especially liked the optional power passenger seat. The heated wheel was a welcome accoutrement, especially on THAT Saturday. Even though the Optima's drivetrain was the same as in the Sonata, the Kia had noticeably different handling characteristics. Under the hood our Kia had the standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder direct injection engine. We achieved 27.2 mpg in mostly cold-weather urban driving. A 6-speed manual transmission, available only on the base LX model, is rated at 24 mpg city and 35 highway.

We found the seats comfortable, and rear-seat passengers were able to enjoy sufficient legroom and a heated seat control. The sloping roofline, coupled with the double-paneled sunroof, limits rear-seat headroom for taller passengers.

Optima's limited optional packages make construction easier and also simplify dealer inventories.

2011 Kia Optima Review

The 2011 Kia Optima is a big knock-out punch to the face of competitors in the segment.
The new Kia Optima is the ultimate expression of the brand’s new heritage.

From the outside the new "Kia Optima "is without fail the most modern-looking car out of Korea to date. Designing cars that have an emotional connection to their buyers.

The 2011 Kia Optima is a midsize sedan available in four trim levels: LX, EX, EX Turbo and SX.
The EX comes standard with the Convenience package as well as 17-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, automatic headlights, foglights, keyless ignition/entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air vents and leather upholstery. The Premium package for the EX and SX adds a panoramic sunroof, a four-way power passenger seat, driver seat memory, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. On the EX and EX Turbo, this package also includes a heated steering wheel.

The 2011 Kia Optima LX and EX are powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that produces 200 hp and 186 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual is standard on the LX Manual, while a six-speed automatic is standard on all other Optimas. In California-emissions states, the Optima has a Super Ultra Low Emissions rating (versus Ultra-Low elsewhere) resulting in a lower power output of 192 hp and 181 lb-ft.

EPA-estimated fuel economy is 24 mpg city/34 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined with the automatic. The Optima Turbo's EPA-estimated fuel economy is 22/34/26 -- outstanding for a car with this much power.

The 2011 Kia Optima comes standard with four-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, side airbags, side curtain airbags and hill start assist. In Edmunds brake testing, an Optima EX came to a stop from 60 mph in 121 feet -- a good performance.

Performance-wise, the new Optima does it all right, with a sweet, powerful-yet-economical engine, great steering, and a quick, nimble feel overall. The bright spot is that heated-and-cooled front seats as well as heated back seats are optional on the Optima EX and SX.

Features remain a strength throughout the Kia lineup, and the Optima is no exception. Even mid EX trims get things like dual-zone climate control and a smart-key system.

Top SX trims will offer a more powerful 274-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while an even higher-mileage Hybrid model will join the lineup late in the model year.

2011 Kia Soul

As far back as 2005, Kia tasked itself with becoming Korea's sporty automaker, leaving parent Hyundai to become a more affordable luxury brand.

Since that time, Kia has steadily introduced a slew of greatly improved products, but nothing remotely "sporty" has hit showroom floors. At first blush, things aren't promising – the Soul is front-drive, modestly powered, tallish, and squared-off in an economy-car-tall-wagon-crossover-looking sort of way. Most people will probably find the Soul either irrepressibly cool or simply fail to "get" its style altogether – there's no middle ground to be had. Quite literally, this is by design – Kia has architected its Soul to elicit the same strong love/hate emotions that went on to fuel blockbusters like the Chrysler 300 and the original Scion xB. Us?

Step inside, and oh, my... there's that club kid again. Funky shapes, patterns and retina-flambéeing colored plastic abounds inside. Like a skate punk that hides a straight-A report card from his mates, there's a practicality streak inside the Soul. The Soul's boxy form also pays dividends in the form of good usable interior space, with spacious accommodations for two up front and belts for three in the second row. Total interior cargo space is good at 53.4 cu-ft (rear 60/40-split seats folded flat), but others, like the Scion xB trounce it (69.9 cubes). Soul Power(train)

So the KIA Soul is a utile, fashion-forward device, but what's under the hood? Side Note: the engine compartment looks a bit unfinished and agrarian, without so much as a plastic cover to hide the oily bits.

For the record, Kia is also offering a base 1.6-liter four-cylinder model paired exclusively with a five-speed manual transmission, and that combination is good for 122 horsepower (at 6,300 rpm) and 113 lb-ft of torque (at 4,200 rpm).

Having debuted in 2010, the little has changed for the "2011 Kia Soul". Other than the Scion xB and Nissan Cube, there are few cars that share the 2011 Kia Soul’s funky shape. The Kia Soul has received a slew of awards. AAA even named the Soul a Top Pick for Dog Owners.
Before you buy a Soul, you should know that Kia recalled about 24,000 Soul vehicles to fix interior lighting panels that can cause fires. Although it’s more expensive than the Soul, the Scion xB has bold exterior styling that reviewers like. The Soul is a hatchback, but it doesn’t offer lots of storage space. Details: 2011 Kia Soul

The Soul comes in four well-equipped trim levels -- a base edition, the Soul Plus (+), Soul Exclaim (!), and Soul Sport. The Soul was new for 2010, and the "2011 Kia Soul "is very similar to last year’s model.

Inside, the Soul isn't nearly as groundbreaking. Most Soul wagons will sport a four-cylinder engine with 2.0 liters of displacement, 142 horsepower, and 137 pound-feet of torque; but there's also a 1.6-liter four-cylinder making 122 horsepower and 115 pound-feet of torque. All Souls ride atop a conventional MacPherson strut front and torsion-beam rear suspension, and they have four-wheel disc brakes. Base and mid-line Souls wear 15- and 16-inch wheels. The Soul Sport leads the performance pack with 18-inch wheels and different suspension tuning. The boxy exterior of the 2011 Kia Soul promises a versatile, roomy, almost van-like interior, and it delivers on that promise—with interior space for five (or four adults) or, with the back seats folded forward, some very impressive cargo space. Dimensionally it checks in at 161.6 inches overall, 70.3 inches wide, 63.4 inches high, and it has a 100.4-inch wheelbase.

The front seats also have active head restraints, which help curb whiplash. The awesome-sounding (optional) 315-watt sound system and well-integrated Bluetooth add to that impression. Options on various Soul models include a sunroof, that sound-system upgrade, and more than 60 accessories, from styling add-ons to interior trim. Two different Special Edition Soul models will be offered in the "2011 KIA Soul" model year; both will be based on the Soul+ trim and include automatic climate control plus unique exterior styling and special accessories.

The 2011 Kia Rio has a low base price, but when you add features like air conditioning and an automatic transmission, that price starts to grow. If you can’t afford the Honda Civic or Kia Forte, and don’t mind driving a car that offers the bare minimum, the "Kia Rio" will suit your needs. In a class crowed with cars that offer a fair price, numerous standard features and good performance, the Kia Rio has difficulty competing. Kia offers another car, the Kia Forte, that makes up for the Rio’s meager list of standard features and small trunk.

The Rio handles reasonably well, brakes seem strong, and there's enough gumption from the powertrain and 110-hp, 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine for most driving, aside from high-speed passes.

The 2011 Kia Rio offers a well-designed interior, but it doesn't step outside its small-car roots or offer any packaging magic. While the base-model Rio strictly offers reliable transportation on a tight budget, the 2011 Kia Rio and Rio5 come well-equipped in their upper trims. The Rio SX model gets a sportier suspension, alloy wheels, fog lamps, and a spoiler, plus sport seats, leather trim, and Sirius Satellite Radio.

2010 Rio LX and SX trims levels offer the availability of Bluetooth, automatic cruise control, and side mirrors with integrated turn signals. Anti-lock brakes (ABS), with four-wheel discs, are standard on all 2010 Kia Rio LX and SX models.
The Kia Rio comes in sedan and hatchback versions, and in base, LX and SX trim levels. The hatchback models are called Rio5.

The Kia Rio sedan ($11,695) comes with a manual transmission, wind-up windows, and manual door locks. The Rio LX sedan ($13,795) comes with air conditioning, power steering, tilt steering column, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. The Rio5 LX hatchback ($13,895) is equipped the same way and is also available with the automatic ($14,795).

The Rio SX sedan ($14,895) and Rio5 SX hatchback ($15,195) upgrade to P205/45R16 tires on alloy wheels, fog lights, upgraded cloth seat inserts, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, metal-finish interior trim, metal pedals, and a spoiler. The Rio SX sedan ($15,795) and Rio5 SX ($16,095) are also available with the automatic. Anti-lock brakes with rear discs are standard on the LX and SX trim levels of both the Rio and Rio5.

The "Kia Rio" is a roomy car. Even with the rear seats up for passengers, the Rio5 has an impressive 15.8 cubic feet of cargo space. We spent time in an LX automatic sedan and a Rio5 SX manual. Standard-issue brakes, on the base model, are 10.1-inch vented discs up front and 8.0-inch drums in the rear. The Kia Rio is an enjoyable car that's easy to live with. The Rio or Rio5 represent a lot of automotive value for the money.

Perhaps more important than any of these amenities, however, is safety, and Spectra reviews agree that the 2010 2011 Kia Spectra is safe. Dual airbags, front/rear crumple zones, side-impact door beams and an impact absorbing steering column are standard features.

A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard, and a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is optional. 2011 Kia Spectra has a 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, 60/40 split-folding rear seats, sunglass holder, center storage console with folding padded armrest, adjustable cupholders and front door map pockets.

"2011 Kia Spectra’s" styling is pleasant, albeit vaguely derivative.
2011 Kia Specta is a well-equipped and affordable sedan.
